Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the last five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the points lead from his teammate by one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in realistic title contention, lying 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his team followed a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before rotating through the gravel trap, and was blessed to avoid just a slight brush of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho turn leading to the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th place, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, over half a second slower than the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
