Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Table
Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, demons, and dark forces increasing in power within the city.
Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of characters who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might look out of place, but the developments of the third episode show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the group knows exactly where to go next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing started the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, attacking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The traitor then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each member has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, seeks vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a hostile place.
- The warrior and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their status as important members in the influential clan could assist the team reach places they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:
- The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This means them little choice but to head to the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the other eight participants to form the Seekers and Strategists parties.
Audiences can expect discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
